High School Masterplan

Client: Putney High School

Location: Putney, London

Site Scale: Medium to Large

Scope of Work: Landscape Design Development

  • Strategic Vision and Campus Identity

Designed for Putney High School, the landscape strategy draws on the angular geometry of the new architecture to create a cohesive, future-facing environment. The masterplan redefines entrances, circulation, and courtyards to enhance identity, access, and functionality. Every element—from paths to planting—contributes to a narrative of progression, inclusivity, and improved usability.

  • Key Layout Interventions

    • Main Campus Masterplan: A reimagined northern entrance features raised planters, Corten cladding, and bespoke signage, establishing a strong first impression. A new axial route connects the reception with the Music and Performing Arts building and wider campus.
    • Courtyard Garden: A raised event lawn and stage provide a multifunctional green space for performances and informal gatherings, framed by contemporary hardscape treatments.
    • Lytton Road Entrance: Redesigned for safety and clarity, this eastern access point separates vehicles and pedestrians, offering a high-quality route into the school..
  • Junior School and Educational Features

The Junior School entrance is reconfigured with high-spec paving, soft planting, and new gates, creating a calm, pedestrian-priority arrival. Diagonal paving bands echo the architectural language, while planting softens boundaries. A standout feature is the Physic Garden—an immersive outdoor classroom showcasing medicinal plants, designed to support STEAM learning through exploration and reflection.

  • Materials and Expression

Material choices—including Corten steel, natural stone paving, and restrained planting—reinforce the school’s modern identity while respecting its heritage. The reimagined entrance wall, clad in Corten and paired with new gates, becomes a landmark that signals the school’s progressive values.
