Roof Terrace

Client: Goodenough College

Location: Central London

Site Scale: Small to Medium

Scope of Work: Landscape Design Concept

  • Integrated Urban Landscape Design

A multi-level roof terrace scheme designed to elevate contemporary residential architecture with sustainable, high-quality outdoor spaces. Located in London, the project blends natural materials, biodiversity, play, and privacy to create tranquil retreats above street level. The design enhances urban living by transforming constrained rooftop environments into green amenity spaces that support wellbeing and community life.

  • Spatial Planning and Ground-Level Continuity

The landscape narrative begins at the entrance, where mature trees and granite paving define a semi-pedestrianized forecourt. Designed for both vehicles and pedestrians, this space offers a safe, welcoming transition into the building. Urban Greening Factor principles guide biodiversity and microclimate improvements, ensuring ecological value from ground level to rooftop.

  • Multi-Level Roofscape and Planting Strategy

Across the 4th and 5th floors, the terraces offer layered experiences—from a flexible lawn and bespoke play zone to stepped connections with integrated seating, planting, and lighting. Corten steel planters provide privacy and ecological richness, combining structural species with seasonal layers. Pergolas and vertical screens manage exposure, while low-irrigation species thrive in rooftop conditions.

  • Materials, Detailing, and Sustainable Value

Porcelain tiles and timber-effect planks define social zones with durability and warmth. Built-in furniture supports communal use while reducing clutter. The design aligns with NHBC green roof guidance, ensuring structural integrity, water management, and long-term sustainability. This landscape adds measurable value to the development—enhancing resident experience and environmental performance.
