Buckinghamshire Landscape Design

Client Type: Private Residential

Location: Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire

Site Scale: Medium to Large

Scope of Work: Full Landscape Design, Planning, and Project Management

  • Project Overview

This full-site landscape transformation in Buckinghamshire was delivered alongside a complete house rebuild for a private client. The scheme reimagines a dated 1970s garden into a contemporary outdoor living environment, featuring a new front entrance, cedar-clad pool house, outdoor kitchen and bar, and multi-functional terraces. Located within a Conservation Area, the design balances planning sensitivity with bold aesthetics and refined detailing.

  • Client Brief and Collaboration

Working closely with a construction industry CEO and the main contractor, the design team developed a timeless, high-performance landscape. The process included concept sketches, layout plans, detailed construction drawings, and a 3D visualisation model to guide implementation and secure planning approval for boundary treatments and tree management.

  • Design Process and Planning

A full site analysis informed the layout, addressing steep level changes, mature vegetation, and fragmented spaces. The design integrates aesthetics, usability, and compliance with Conservation Area planning requirements. Material selection and construction detailing enabled efficient delivery and ensured architectural synergy.

  • Front Garden and Entrance

    • Automated hardwood vehicle and pedestrian gates for privacy and security
    • Structured roadside planting to enhance kerb appeal and maintain visibility
    • Resin-bound gravel driveway over permeable tarmac for SUDs compliance
    • Re-profiled levels and stone retaining walls for accessibility and flow
    • Layered planting to soften transitions and define boundaries
  • Rear and Side Garden Features

    • Outdoor pool with cedar-clad pool house (changing, shower, WC, plant room)
    • Outdoor kitchen and bar with covered dining zone for entertaining
    • Multi-zone terraces for lounging and social use, aligned with sun paths
    • Mediterranean gravel garden with olive trees and aromatic planting
    • Irish stone-clad retaining walls and dual-tone porcelain paving
    • Custom seating areas and informal lounge spaces
    • Layered boundary planting for biodiversity, screening, and seasonal interest
    • Hardwood access gates and bespoke cedarwood garden store
    • Large event lawn with surrounding paths for movement and recreation
    • New perimeter fencing for privacy and material continuity
  • Sustainability and Detailing

The scheme incorporates SUDs-compliant drainage, low-maintenance materials, and planting tailored to microclimate and orientation. Every element is designed for longevity, ecological value, and seamless integration with the rebuilt residence

The completed garden delivers elegant form, robust function, and a cohesive relationship between architecture and landscape. It sets a benchmark for high-end residential design in Buckinghamshire, offering a refined setting for daily life and large-scale entertaining.
